About Settlement Houses

Picture
The two major concerns of the Settlement House are:
  1. Strengthening of family life.
  2. Improvement of the neighborhood

The uniqueness of the settlement is evidenced by the fact that it:
  1. Helps people become articulate.
  2. Helps people develop an interest in their neighborhood.
  3. Helps people work together around common problems and concerns.

The ethical principles that guide the settlement’s work are:
  1. To teach by example.
  2. To practice cooperation.
  3. To practice social democracy across class lines.
