James Bellotti, Board President
I have had a 40+ year career serving people with disabilities. My career has been extremely rewarding and has continually reminded me that I have had a truly fortunate life. While I have worked hard, I have also received a great deal of support that has enabled me to live a wonderful life.
Upon my retirement, I felt that it was important to give back to the community that has treated me so well. I volunteered in a disability awareness program, a program that serves people who are homeless and at other community-based services. About eight years ago, I was provided information about the Stanford Settlement Neighborhood Center (SSNC). I had the opportunity to meet with Sister Jeanne Felion (then Executive Director at SSNC) and was immediately impressed with her philosophy and the programs offered by the SSNC.
While I have served on numerous national, state and local boards, there was an immediate attraction to volunteer at SSNC. To be able to join a committed staff and other volunteers who have served the community would be an honor. SSNC does not have a large budget and the funds are almost exclusively committed for program operations. I could readily see that staff were committed to their calling as well as the volunteers who support the agency. This organization is not a place where one was able to make a lot of money. The reward is the satisfaction to see the community being lifted.
I thought what a wonderful calling it would be to be part of this effort. As a result, I am pleased to say that I have had eight wonderful years volunteering at Stanford Settlement. The testament to this organization is that they have a record of continuous services for over 80 years in supporting and promoting the healthy growth of the community. Here's how you can support this organization.
